Birnbaum will report to Keith Banks, Chief Executive Officer, according to a press release. Birnbaum joins Fleet from Credit Suisse Asset Management (CSAM), where he was Managing Director, heading Institutional Marketing, Defined Contribution and Global E-Commerce activities.
He joined CSAM in 1998 following a nine-year tenure with JP Morgan Investment Management, departing there as Managing Director for Marketing Strategy and Programs for the Defined Benefit market and head of Defined Contribution activities.
Fleet currently has some $125 billion in assets under management, and stands to add another $50 billion following its pending acquisition of the asset management business of Liberty Financial (see FleetBoston to Acquire Liberty Financial ). That transaction is expected to close in the third quarter, according to the company.
