Bush Nominates Prophete to EEOC

February 11, 2002(PLANSPONSOR.com) - President Bush nominated Donald S. Prophete, senior attorney with the labor and employment division of Sprint's legal department, to the position of general counsel of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Prior to joining Sprint, Prophete was an associate with the law firms of Bond Schoeneck & King in New York and Klett Lieber Rooney and Schorling in Pittsburgh, where he specialized in labor and employment matters.

The office of general counsel oversees the commission’s enforcement actions under federal anti-discrimination laws, including Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Equal Pay Act.

If confirmed by the Senate, Prophete will serve a four-year term.

In addition to Prophete, two candidates named by the White House to fill vacancies among the EEOC’s five commissioners are awaiting confirmation.

Senate Labor Committee counsel Leslie Silverman was nominated in September, and former EEOC staff attorney Naomi Churchill-Earp was nominated in November.
