CA High Court Turns Away San Diego County Benefits Case
The North County Times reports that the decision let stand an appeals court ruling that the county did nothing wrong by not giving increased benefits to rehires retroactively.
Employees who retired before a pension benefits increase was enacted in 2002 received lower benefits based on older calculations and if a retiree was rehired he or she only received the increased pension benefits for their new years of service, the newspaper explained.
The suit, which questioned the treatment of rehire benefits, was originally filed in 2005 by the San Diego County Retirement Association, which manages the county’s $8 billion pension fund. A Superior Court decided the county’s system “created an inequity.”
However, the appeals court reversed that ruling (See Rehired CA Employees Not Eligible for Pension Boost ).
