Cancers for Firefighters Covered by VT Workers Comp Legislation

May 23, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Vermont firefighters diagnosed with certain types of cancer will be eligible for workers' compensation benefits for up to 10 years after retirement, according to a Business Insurance report.

The benefits legislation, signed by Governor Jim Douglas on Tuesday, will put the burden on employers and insurers to prove that various types of cancers are not related to firefighters’ work.

The legislationcovers leukemia, lymphoma, and cancers originating in the bladder, brain, colon, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver pancreas, skin or testicles, according to Business Insurance.
