COBRA Subsidy Eligibility Extended
April 16, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – President Obama has signed into law a measure extending the 65%, 15-month COBRA premium subsidy to workers involuntarily terminated through May 31.
Reported by Rebecca Moore
Under the previous extension, workers involuntarily terminated after March 31 were not eligible for the subsidy (see COBRA Subsidy Extension not Passed Before Lawmakers’ Recess). The Senate has approved legislation to extend the subsidy to workers laid off through the end of 2010, but the House has not acted on that measure.
The measure signed into law late Thursday night also extends unemployment benefits to people whose 26 weeks of state-paid benefits have run out through June 2.
