The survey, by HR consulting firm iLogos Research, also found that manufacturing companies are still flocking to the Internet to find new workers, with 98% checking career Web sites.
The practice is spreading widely among high-tech firms with 95% using job Web sites, up 6% from last year. Meanwhile 92% of firms in the consumer sector said they used career Internet sites, up 5%, while 92% of transportation firms browsed the Web for new hires – down 4% from 2001.
In other results:
- 91% of companies in the wholesale sector did Web recruiting, an increase of 9%
- compared to 88% of companies involved in natural resources sector, an increase of 5%, and
- 87% of financial services firms, up 5%
iLogos Research officials said the gap is narrowing between
the North American-based Global 500 companies using online
recruiting and those in the European and Asia-Pacific
regions, with 5% separating the lowest, Asia Pacific, from
the highest, North America.
North American Global 500 companies using corporate Web sites for recruiting in 2002 represent 95% of North American-based companies, compared to 93% in 2001 and 92% in 2000.
The list of Global 500 companies is from Fortune Magazine and represents the largest companies in the world based on gross revenue, iLogos Research said.
