"Des" Mac Intyre, GMIMCo CFO, Joining PLANSPONSOR.com

May 16, 2000 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - James D. ("Des") Mac Intyre is departing his position as Chief Financial Officer at General Motors Investment Management Corporation (GMIMCo) to join PLANSPONSOR.com as its Chief Financial Officer, effective June 30.

Mac Intyre said one of the main reasons for his decision to leave the nation’s largest private pension fund was “the ability to redefine the business.” “I’ve always been fortunate in working for blue chip firms at the leading edge of their field, ” Mac Intyre said. “PLANSPONSOR.com is at the forefront in technology and has a business model that will redefine service levels for the industry.”

Natural

Mac Intyre departs GMIMCo after four years at the fund, which is also the world’s 12th largest money manager. GMIMCo oversees $130 billion in assets, approximately 15% of which is managed in-house.

His decision to join PLANSPONSOR.com was “a natural extension” of a very rewarding career, according to Mac Intyre. PLANSPONSOR.com already has “brand recognition, solid strategic relationships and benchmark studies,” while the Internet service platform will offer “risk-based templates for people making key decisions with limited time and resources” according to Mac Intyre.

Positioned as an “independent intermediary with a best of brand focus,” Mac Intyre was quick to note PLANSPONSOR.com’s “interests are much more aligned with the concerns and perspectives of the plan sponsor community” than those of other industry Web sites.

Insights

Mac Intyre said he hopes to apply his professional experience to offer practical insights into current and future product offerings in the marketplace. “You don’t have to be GM anymore to get the best in the industry,” he said.

People were also a huge consideration in the move.”The business will continue to evolve,” he noted, “people matter, alliances matter. And PLANSPONSOR.com has all the ingredients for continued success in a challenging environment.”

Mac Intyre leaves GM on “the best of terms”, noting that he is “looking forward” to working with his former associates in his new position.

Charles Ruffel, CEO of PlanSponsor.com, said “Des brings a unique insight to our development efforts. He has quite literally “walked the walk” of a plan sponsor, money manager and consultant. His insight, vision and experience are an extraordinary addition to the PLANSPONSOR.com team.”

Solid ground

During his tenure at GMIMCo, Mac Intyre oversaw the development of an infrastructure that allowed GMIMCo to offer investment products on a commercial basis, extending its role as plan sponsor to encompass money management capabilities for other firms. He was also instrumental in the development of one of the preeminent risk management programs in the industry.

Mac Intyre was previously Vice President, Financial Planning and Director, Business Risk Management at GMIMCo. Before coming to GMIMCo, he was a Director of Pension Investment & Analysis at Vauxhall Motors Limited, a GM unit in the UK. He has also been a consulting analyst for the Frank Russell Company and an economist for the London Stock Exchange.
