DoL Seeks Comments on Student Hire Form

of Labor (DoL) is seeking feedback on revisions it has made
to the form used by employers to get permission to pay
full-time students less than the minimum wage.

The new version of form WH-202 asks for less information than the current document, the DoL said.
The Fair Labor Standards Act allows the hiring of full-time students at lower wages in retail and service companies, agriculture, and at the students’ college or university. Students can be paid no less than 85% of the minimum wage.
Employers can apply for permission to hire as many as six full-time students; colleges or universities aren’t bound by that limit, the DoL said. The permission certificates are issued for a year, but employers can apply to renew them.
