Dow Jones Ups Emerging Coverage

June 20, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Dow Jones Indexes is increasing coverage of emerging stock markets in the Dow Jones World Index to 95% of market capitalization from 80%.

The increased coverage will boost the number of components in the 11 emerging markets to 824 from 608 and is expected to offer institutional and individual investors a broader range of investment.

The total number of stocks in the Dow Jones World Index will increase to 5,046 from 4,801.


The developed markets in the Dow Jones World Index already cover 95% of the underlying market capitalization.

Dow Jones Indexes designates the following as developing or emerging markets:

  • Malaysia
  • Indonesia
  • the Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand
  • South Africa
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Mexico
  • Venezuela

These changes became effective with the beginning of trading on June 18, 2001.

The new weightings of the components included in the Dow Jones World Indexes are posted on the web site http://www.djindexes.com .
