EBSA Announces South Fla. COBRA, HIPAA Seminars

March 5, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) has scheduled four South Florida conferences for plan sponsors about the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The   DoL’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) said the sessions, in Plantation, near Fort Lauderdale, will cover COBRA notice and disclosure regulations and common COBRA mistakes, while the HIPAA portion of the workshops will discuss HIPAA notice and disclosure procedures and common HIPAA mistakes.

The sessions will also include information on COBRA Premium Reductions under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the federal government’s recently passed economic stimulus package (See  EBSA Provides COBRA Subsidy Publications ).

The announcement said published materials will be provided and EBSA benefits advisors will be on site to address questions.

The free sessions have been scheduled for April 8, April 30, May 14 and May 21.
