EGTRRA Sunset Clauses Made Permanent

June 21, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The House of Representatives easily approved legislation tearing off the expiration date of the retirement savings provisions of the Economic Growth and Tax Reform Reconciliation Act.

The bill, which would remove the 2010 expiration date from legislation that increased contribution limits to 401(k) plans and individual retirement accounts, garnered 308 votes, with 70 votes against. The bill, HR 4931, is called the Retirement Security Savings Act.

The House of Representatives also voted out a Democrat version of the legislation, which would also have stepped up taxes on corporate executives, in a vote of 204 to 182, split along party lines.
