Employees Working Across State Lines Means Complex Payroll

October 13, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – A recent poll of payroll professionals found that 39.1% of respondents’ companies have employees working in multiple states.

A news release from CyberShift, a provider of workforce and expense management software and services sponsoring the survey, said the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Fairness and Simplification Act [H.R. 2110] could complicate the payroll tasks of many firms.

The bill would prevent Americans who work in multiple jurisdictions from being taxed by state and local governments other than the places in which they live or perform duties over an extended period.

Additional results from the survey showed that payroll professionals find it challenging to capture accurate and timely data for absence, leave, vacation, and payroll adjustments.

The survey explored the opinions of more than 1,200 American Payroll Association (APA) members. More information about the company is at http://www.cybershift.com/.
