Employer Trust Looms Large in Job Decision

October 24, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Most workers (89%) say corporate trust is a major component in their career decision, and nearly two-thirds say their level of trust for their current employer has changed in the past six months.

And a new survey released by online recruiting site TrueCareers also found that nearly half (41%) say their current employer may become involved in a corporate scandal, and 10% (or presumed job searchers) say their company is already involved in such a scandal.

The report also found that just 8% state that executives, as a group, are trustworthy

While gauging employee trust, the survey also took measure of employee investing patterns:

  • 63% have at least some portion of savings invested in their employer
  • but 49% have not rethought their investments in light of recent corporate scandals

The survey was conducted on the website of TrueCareers, a subsidiary of the SallieMae Foundation in September 2002 and had 724 respondents.
