Employers Encourage Employees to Vote
November 6, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - More than
one-third of organizations surveyed for the Society for Human
Resource Management (SHRM) said they are allowing employees
paid time off to vote.

According to an SHRM press release, this number is up from 30% in 2004. In addition, 21% of HR professionals surveyed said they are allowing for time off to vote without pay, the same number as in 2004.
SHRM asked 498 HR professionals what their organization was doing to encourage employees to vote. In addition to providing time off, the HR professionals said:
- We provide information to employees on voter registration – 10%
- We have a voter registration drive (e.g., onsite/online registration opportunities) – 4%
- We provide employees with nonpartisan information about candidates – 4%
- We provide employees with nonpartisan issue-related information – 4%
- We provide information to employees on voting locations and times – 4%.
