Employers Spend Less on Training Workers in Other Countries

October 18, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A survey from Expertus and TrainingOutsourcing.com revealed that, while 82% of responding companies are involved in global training, more training dollars are spent on employees in the companies' home country.

According to Expertus, almost half of responding companies said they spend less than 10% of their annual training budgets on training delivered to employees outside of home countries. Additionally, 37% of responding companies said employees outside of home countries receive less training than employees located within home countries.

Fifty-seven percent of responding companies said all employees in all countries have access to e-learning. The survey also revealed 33% of respondents said training staff is located at corporate headquarters only, and 42% said they have training staff in multiple US and non-US locations. Over 35% of companies said they outsource training delivery.

The most common types of training delivered globally by responding companies was company-specific training (68%) and management or leadership training (65%). Ninety-six percent said training was delivered in English, while Spanish came in next at (39%).

Budget constraints (48%), content localization and translation (40%), effective learning delivery (39%), and maximization of e-learning (34%) were the top global training challenges cited by survey respondents.

Survey responses were collected from 268 companies. Approximately 31% of survey respondents had between five and 50 locations outside of home countries and almost 20% had more than 50 locations outside of home countries.
