Ex-Broker Sues BNY Mellon for Gender Discrimination

January 24, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – A former Bank of New York Mellon Corp portfolio officer has leveled gender and age discrimination charges against her ex-employer in a federal court lawsuit.

Reuters reported that Rochelle Cohen alleged she was paid less than younger, male employees and that she was not offered similar promotion opportunities.

According to the suit, Cohen was dismissed by Bank of New York Mellon last year after 10 years of employment in the Mellon Private Wealth group and told her job had been eliminated.

Cohen’s suit said she had worked in wealth management for 30 years and was previously a broker at several other firms, and had over 80 client relationships and over $200 million under management in over 200 accounts when she was fired.

A bank spokesman refused to comment on the suit to Reuters.
