Executives Working Longer Hours

April 4, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Today's executive puts in at least 11 hours of work each day, which, for 36% of the managers, is more time than they spent at the office five years ago, a poll finds.

The survey, by staffing agency Robert Half International, also found that the executives polled work 54 hours on average each week.

The silver lining in the survey data was that 64% of the executives responding said their current office schedule was the same or less demanding than five years ago.

Generally, it may be worth reminding the workaholics that extended office time doesn’t necessarily mean they’re better workers, said Robert Half CEO Max Messmer in a press release.

Messmer warned that managers who continually work extended hours are a burnout risk, which can drag down their long-term performance.

The Half survey includes responses from 150 executives with the nation’s 1,000 largest companies.
