FedEx Adds Gender Identity to Discrim Policy

July 16, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Package delivery giant FedEx has added gender identity to its company non-discrimination policy, according to a report.

The report, on the OneNewsNow.com Web site, said the Memphis-based company made the move voluntarily before a shareholder resolution to that effect could be voted on.

According to the report, FedEx officials contactedJulie Goodridge, CEO of NorthStar Asset Management, who filed the shareholder resolution on behalf of Huffington Post blogger Sara Whitman, and told Goodridge of their decision to proceed without shareholder consideration.

“They had within I think the last seven years or so added non-discrimination [on the basis of] sexual orientation as a protective status at their company,” Goodridge said, according to the report, “and they wanted to be as forthright as possible in protecting all of their employees who contribute to the value of the company.”

Goodridge told the Web site she is now “interested in talking with FedEx” about adding the term ‘gender expression’ to its non-discrimination language.
