Fidelity HR Clients Get Health Info Enhancement

March 8, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Employees at companies whose health plans are serviced by Fidelity Investments' Health and Welfare benefits outsourcing unit will soon have a new source of customized online medical information.

Starting this summer, users of Fidelity’s NetBenefits Web site will also have access to a variety of personalized health-care information provided by WebMD Health, a prominent online health data provider. The hope is that workers will be able to make better health-care choices with the additional information, Fidelity said in a news release.

The new site will securely integrate employer-provided health plan details with health management tools provided by WebMD Health, to show a personalized view of an individual’s health care options and related health plan coverage, Fidelity said.

“At this point, most employers have been forced to increase employee contributions and out-of-pocket costs for using health services due to the continued upward spiral in health care costs,” said Surinder Singh, executive vice president of Fidelity’s Health and Welfare group, in a statement. “But, cost sharing alone is not a sustainable long-term strategy. Only by converting employees from users of health care to consumers of health care will employers reduce the cost of providing health benefits in the future.”
