FTSE, AMEX Join to Push ETFs

November 6, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Global index company FTSE Group is partnering with the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) to promote the creation of US exchange-traded funds (ETF).

According to an announcement, FTSE will work with Amex ETF Services to identify potential sponsors of ETFs to be based on FTSE indices that can be listed for US trading.   Sponsors should be selected before the second half of 2003, the announcement said.

The Amex and FTSE will first focus on ETFs based on:

  • the FTSE 100
  • the FTSE Global Sector Indexes
  • the FTSE4Good Series of Socially Responsible Indexes.

The announcement said more ETF assets in the UK are linked to FTSE indices than any other provider. The American Stock Exchange lists and trades 125 ETFs, more than any other US exchange, the announcement said.
