Group Launches Benefits Resource for Seniors

June 6, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Many retirees don't take advantage of state and federal benefits programs because the either aren't aware of them, or don't know how to apply. The National Council on the Aging (NCOA) provides a solution through the launch of their new Web site.

The site contains a screening tool, which helps seniors determine their eligibility for nearly 1,000 state and federal programs and provides detailed instructions on how to apply for them. Many seniors are missing out on Veteran’s programs, property tax relief, nutrition programs and educational benefits.

Seniors can fill out a confidential questionnaire on the site. Their information is then compared with eligibility requirements for federal programs such as Social Security, Medicaid and Food Stamps, or state administered programs such as Vocational Rehabilitation and In-Home Services. Users then receive a printable report that tells them which programs they may likely qualify for and where to go to enroll.
