Hedge Fund "Finders" Have to Register

May 4, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Investment management lawyers are warning hedge fund investment marketers - known as finders - they have to register with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Hedgeco.Net reported that some finders haven’t yet registered because many assume that they are protected by the SEC “exemptions” as outlined in the SEC “no action letter.”

For finders to use such exemptions they must also be hedge fund managers while other full- time hedge fund investment marketers must register with the SEC as broker/dealers.

Hedge fund finders are generally regarded as third party marketing and distribution specialists for alternative investment products, such as hedge funds.
