Hedge Funds See Slight February Drop

March 15, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index dropped a notch in February, falling by 0.6%. That follows a 0.5% uptick in January.

Over the month, funds employing Emerging Markets strategies, making equity or fixed income investments in developing economies around the world, and those following a Dedicated Short Bias strategy, performed best. Both saw a 2.9% hike.

Fixed Income Arbitrage was the second-best performer during the month, turning in a 0.9% increase, according to the Index.

In comparison:

  • the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.9%
  • the S&P 500 slid by 2.1%
  • the Nasdaq plummeted 10.5%.

Performance for the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index, which comprises 381 funds, and the nine style-driven sub-indices are calculated monthly for capitalization and return. The Index is reselected quarterly.
