Hi-tech Job Hoppers Hop Often

July 31, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - IT professionals only stay with their employers for an average of three years, according to people3's 2001 IT Market Compensation Study.

More than half of them leave their employers within that time, the study shows.

Some of the jobs vacated are harder to fill than others.

Of the 104 positions in IT studied in the survey, the position that takes the longest average time to fill is network architect at 4.2 months, followed by database administrator, which sits vacant for 3.7 months.

And of course, some jobs pay better than others.

Of the 25 IT job families analyzed, jobs in the system-programming job family had both the largest average base-salary increase, 7.1%, and the largest total cash compensation increase, at 8.1%.

In comparison, the median base salary for the IT jobs surveyed was $62,100, an increase of 1.8% over last year, and median total cash compensation was $64,200.
