House Lawmakers Order HCR Replacement Bill

January 21, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – U.S. House lawmakers have formally instructed four House committees to write a new bill to replace the controversial health care reform legislation, which they recently voted to repeal.

U.S. House records say House Resolution 9,  by U.S. Representative David Dreier (R-California), passed on Thursday by a 253 to 175 vote and directed the Education and Labor, Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, and Judiciary committees to draft the replacement legislation.

The resolution directs the panels to have as goals lower health care premiums through increased competition and choice, increase the number of insured, and not “accelerate the insolvency of entitlement programs or increase the tax burden on Americans.” The Thursday passage of the resolution followed Wednesday’s vote by the House to approve H.R. 2 to repeal the health care reform law.
