ICMA-RC Unveils Education Site for Gen Y Workers

May 3, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – ICMA-RC has launched a financial education social media Web site as a resource for Generation Y users who work for or are thinking about a career in state or local government.

A news release said thedreambigsite.org, which aims at those 18 to 32 years old, includes blogs written by and for Gen Y users focused on five main topic areas: credit, investing, loans, saving, and retirement. Save & Share is a Web-based application that allows users to discuss their dreams, post their savings goals and strategies, and share them with friends on Twitter or Facebook.

The announcement said other items on the site include Ask the Expert: a place to ask certified financial planning experts questions about financial planning, saving, and investing;  Reality Check: an array of financial planning calculators;  and Pocketchange: a mobile version of the site that enables users to communicate and share financial tidbits with friends.

“We want to inspire public employees to dream big about the things they want in life, while keeping in mind all the things they will need to achieve them,” said Gregory Dyson, senior vice president, in the news release. “When it comes to financial planning, public sector employees have a unique set of needs and we want this site to be a helpful resource for them in their search for information.”
