Job Changers Increase in Q2
July 27, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - By choice or
otherwise, one in five working Americans changed employment
status during the second quarter, according to a new
survey.
Reported by Nevin E. Adams
That’s up noticeably from the 11.3% in the first quarter, according to the latest Lee Hecht Harrison Career Mobility Index.
Status Changers
Of those whose employment status changed in the second quarter, 5.2% were “downsized”, nearly twice the 2.8% who lost a job in the first three months of the year. However, half of those have already found new employment.
Among other job changers:
- 6.0% left their employer voluntarily for a new job, compared with 4.6% in the first quarter
- 4.6% worked for the same employer in a new position, compared with 4.0% a quarter ago
- 3.2% retired
- 1.1% became self-employed
The Index is based on a quarterly telephone survey commissioned by global career services firm Lee Hecht Harrison.
