Laid-Off Managers Employed Sooner

April 12, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - While employers continue to hand out pink slips, unemployed managers and executives were finding new jobs a month sooner than they were a year ago.

The quarterly Challenger Job Market Index, a survey of discharged executives nationwide, found that job seekers were out of work for a median of 2.27 months in the first quarter, down 37% from the 3.58 months it took to find a job a year ago.

According to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, first-quarter job seekers were unemployed for the shortest length of time since the index began tracking the data 15 years ago.
