Latest Report of MIA Employee Personal Data from Marriott Subsidiary

December 28, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI) has notified authorities that backup computer tapes containing data on about 206,000 employees, timeshare owners, and timeshare customers are missing from the corporate office in Orlando, Florida.

Stephen Weisz, president of MVCI, which is a subsidiary of Marriott International, Inc. said the company has mailed notifications to those affected, according to HR.BLR.com. The company is offering to pay for individuals to enroll in a credit monitoring service.

In addition, the company says it has begun an investigation to search for the tapes, determine how they disappeared, and resolve how to prevent a recurrence.

In November, Boeing Co. reported the theft of a computer with files containing personal information on 161,000 current and former Boeing employees (SeeBoeing Employee Data Stolen). In May, Time Warner said backup tapes containing private data on nearly all of its 85,000 current employees were missing.
