This year companies were evaluated on how far benefits reach throughout the ranks. The following areas were examined
- percentage of women in workforce,
- child care support,
- leave for new parents,
- work/life balance, and
- advancement of women
The list recognized 10 companies as exceptionally progressive:
- Bristol-Myers Squibb, New York – three years on list,
- Citigroup, New York, 11 years on list,
- IBM, Armonk, New York – on list for all 16 years,
- Fannie Mae, Washington, DC – eight years on list,
- Marriott International, Washington, DC -11 years on list,
- Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, New York – first time on the list,
- PricewaterhouseCoopers, New York – six years on list,
- Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, Ohio – 15 years on list,
- Prudential Insurance, Newark, New Jersey – 12 years on list
- Texas Instruments, Dallas, Texas, 6 years on list,
IBM has been in the top 10 for 14 years, longer than any other company – and in the top 100 all 16 years. Over the past five years, the number of female executives working at IBM has more than tripled from 185 to 596. More than half are working mothers, according to the report.
Almost 70% of the listed companies offer childcare, and more companies expanded or began offering elder care counseling and referral services.
