MassMutual Spiffs Up LTD Site

November 18, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Corporate benefit administrators looking for a way to learn more about long-term disability (LTD) plans can turn to a newly spiffed up Web site.

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) announced that it had revamped its  LTD Web portal by adding more educational disability insurance tools.

Enhanced tools include

  • a needs calculator to compare current income and group LTD plan coverage with monthly expenses
  • a savings evaluator for identifying and measuring the use of savings versus using disability income insurance
  • a retirement calculator to illustrate potential retirement plan shortfalls.

The site offers exercises to help visitors identify coverage gaps associated with many group LTD plans and conduct their own needs analysis, the company said.

The site also features streaming video of customer testimonials, statistics, referral capabilities and survey data, featuring the results of MassMutual’s Benefits Barometer survey conducted in July 2002, the company said.

The results of MassMutual’s online survey of benefit administrators found that nearly half of all employees fail to realize or are unaware that only a portion of their salary (approximately half after taxes) is covered by their group long-term disability (LTD) plan while less than one-third of employers offer both group and supplemental individual disability income insurance.
