Monster Site Hit with Spam Virus

November 30, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.COM) - Job Web site Monster shut down part of its operation recently after finding out that it had been infected with a virus designed to bombard victims with spam.

A news report from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) said the company shuttered its Monster Company Boulevard, an area of the site permitting those looking for work to get more data on potential employers.

Monster issued a statement reporting: “The virus is detectable by most major anti-virus software, and this issue should not affect users running Windows with the most recent security updates from Microsoft. We believe only an extremely small percentage of those using the site this week were potentially exposed,” according to the news report.

Earlier this year, Monster acknowledged that the personal information of more than one million job seekers registered with the site had been stolen and found on a computer in Ukraine (See Hackers Steal Info from Federal Govt. Job Site ).
