NYIT Creates Live HR Certification Class

August 21, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - HR professionals have another option for online professional certification preparation courses.

The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) announced it has created a live online program where students can learn about human resources issues from their own home or office computers.

NYIT said a Web service called PlaceWare, Inc. created the program from study material prepared by the Society of Human Resource Management.

NYIT said students (who are represented as little squares on a screen) are called by name, ask and are asked questions, are quizzed, tested and surveyed. Users see a video of the classroom, together with PowerPoint slides.

A separate window shows an electronic whiteboard, which an instructor can use like a classroom chalkboard, NYIT said

The 35-hour course covers six topics ranging from strategic management to employee and labor relations to compensation and benefits. When the course is completed, students are prepared for the national certification exams, NYIT said.

Information about the program is at  http://iris.nyit.edu/extendededucation/
