NYLIM Announces New CEO

May 23, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - New York Life Insurance Company has tapped Brian Murdock, 50, as the new chief executive officer of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM), effective July 1.

A NYLIM news release said that Murdock succeeds Gary Wendlandt, 55, who has been promoted to senior executive vice president of the parent company. Wendlandt remains chairman of the investment management subsidiary.

Murdock joined NYLIM as president in 2004 with responsibility for NYLIM Guaranteed Products, NYLIM Retirement Plan Services, NYLIM Retail Investments, as well as several of NYLIM’s business support units. In addition, according to the announcement, Murdock had oversight of NYLIM investment management groups including New York Life Capital Partners LLC and NYLIM Equity Investors.

Before joining NYLIM, Murdock was the chief operating officer for Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) based in Princeton, New Jersey, responsible for the P&L of the US business with over $300 billion in client assets.

Murdock received a BS from Cornell University in 1978.
