Officials Help Launch Asian American Workplace Rights Campaign

July 30, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Two federal agencies are joining forces with a series of community groups to launch a new effort to help educate both Asian American employers and employees about their workplace rights under federal labor laws.

According to a news release from the US E qual Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), it and the US Department of Labor (DoL) will work with community groups and local government agencies to launch The Information Group for Asian American Rights (TIGAAR).

TIGAAR will provide compliance assistance to Asian American employers and education to Asian American employees on their rights in the workplace under federal labor law.

TIGAAR steering committee members include the EEOC, DoL’s Wage and Hour Division and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the City of Houston Office of Council Member Gordon Quan, and numerous Asian advocacy groups – including the Organization for Chinese Americans, Alliance for Multicultural Community Services, VN TeamWork, Lao American Association, Japanese American Citizens League, and Houston 80/20.
