Partnership Brings Wells REIT to Access Variable Insurance Trust

April 24, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Western Reserve Life Assurance Co of Ohio, AEGON NV, and Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company have partnered up to offer a real estate investment trust (REIT) product through the Access Variable Insurance Trust.

The   Wells REIT Index Fundseeks investment results that correspond to the performance of the S&P REIT Composite Index, which currently holds 101 REIT investments in the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, according toDoug Mayer, Regional Vice President for Wells Real Estate Funds.   These investments are spread across all three REIT property types:

  • equity REITs
  • mortgage REITs
  • hybrid REITs

The fund normally invests at least 95% of assets in stocks of real estate investment trusts (REITs) that are included in the S&P REIT Index in approximately   the same proportions as the index itself.   Rydex Global Advisors serves as the sub-advisor of the fund.
