Pension Reform On Hold

November 14, 2000 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - In the midst of an uncertain election outcome, a lame duck congressional session and President Clinton's Asian visit, congressional leaders have opted to put off consideration of the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2000 until after Thanksgiving.

TRA 2000 includes many of the provisions of the original pension reform legislation, the Comprehensive Retirement Security and Pension Reform Act (H.R. 1102), originally introduced by Representatives Rob Portman (R-OH) and Ben Cardin (D-MD).

Congress is expected to pass a continuing resolution that will keep the government operating through December 5, according to the American Benefits Council.
