Poll Takes PBOR Pulse
August 1, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Almost
three-quarters of respondents in a recent poll will consider
changing their health insurance to a more competitively
priced policy if their premiums increase due to the Patients?
Bill of Rights legislation.
Reported by Camilla Klein
An online poll conducted by ebix.com, a site where consumers can purchase health insurance, found that:
- a little over half the sample agree that a $5 million limit should be placed on punitive damages awarded under the Patients’ Bill of Rights,
- while 31% said there should be no limit at all, and
- only 17% agreed with a smaller $500,000 limit
Other notable poll findings include:
- almost 60% of respondents said that consumers would benefit the most if the bill were passed,
- while 26% said that it would be the lawyers who gain the most, and
- only 14% said it would be insurance companies
The poll, conducted between July 27 and 31, 2001, reflects the responses of 514 individuals.
