Potential "Mom" Salary Keeps Growing

Being a Mom is more than a full-time commitment, according to the 14th annual Mom Salary survey from Salary.com. The survey asked mothers to report how they divide their time each week. By applying the hours per week—broken down by stay-at-home and employed mothers—to the median annual income of those positions, Salary.com was able to estimate what these women would earn if paid for their efforts.
Stay-at-home moms spent 96.5 hours parenting each week this year, up from 94 hours last year. If compensated for a 40 hour work week plus 56.5 hours of overtime, these women would take home $118,905 in 2014, a more than $5,000 increase from 2013.
In addition to their day jobs, employed mothers spent 59.4 hours each week on household work and child care this year, up from 58 hours in 2013. For their work, these mothers would earn $70,107 each year, a raise of nearly $3,000 from last year.
The following is a list of the 10 most common roles mothers maintained in 2014, as well as the median annual salary and hours per week moms spent on the job:
10. CEO: $167,900
Stay-at-home moms: 3.2 hours per week; Employed moms: 2.5 hours per week
9. Laundry Operator: $21,000
Stay-at-home moms: 6.5 hours per week; Employed moms: 4.2 hours per week
8. Janitor: $21,100
Stay-at-home moms: 7.8 hours per week; Employed moms: 4.4 hours per week
7. Van Driver: $28,400
Stay-at-home moms: 7.8 hours per week; Employed moms: 5.9 hours per week
6. Psychologist: $81,000
Stay-at-home moms: 8.3 hours per week; Employed moms: 6.3 hours per week
5. Computer Operator: $34,200
Stay-at-home moms: 8.6 hours per week; Employed moms: 6.2 hours per week
4. Facilities Manager: $65,800
Stay-at-home moms: 10.9 hours per week; Employed moms: 7.3 hours per week
3. Day Care Center Teacher: $26,700
Stay-at-home moms: 14.3 hours per week; Employed moms: 5.6 hours per week
2. Cook: $29,200
Stay-at-home moms: 14.5 hours per week; Employed moms: 8.7 hours per week
1. Housekeeper: $21,200
Stay-at-home moms: 14.6 hours per week; Employed moms: 8.3 hours per week
More than 15,000 mothers responded to the survey this year, and the same 10 positions dominated their time this year as last. For its calculations, Salary.com only used income data from companies that employ 25 or fewer full-time employees.
