Principal Introduces New Wellness Program

April 1, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Principal has announced a new wellness program offering it says gives employers the necessary tools to create a cultural shift, making healthy living a way of life for employees.

With the new offering, employers receive a guide including a year-round education and communication campaign and incentive strategy, according to the announcement.  By participating in wellness-driven events like onsite health screenings and seminars, employees receive points which can be redeemed for incentives like lower co-pays or deductibles for the next year’s benefits.

The announcement said employees stay engaged and encouraged along the way with things like wellness challenges, which can spark friendly worksite competition.

“A change in health status won’t happen overnight, but we’ve identified systematic ways to improve the health of an employee population over time,” said Lee Dukes, president of Principal Wellness Company, a subsidiary of the Principal Financial Group, in the announcement.  “All components of the program are easy to implement and give employers ongoing feedback on the health of their business.”

The Principal said its Financial Well-Being Index found more than two out of five American workers agree wellness programs would make them work harder and perform better.
