Principal Tailors Plan Support Feature to Cancer Care

February 21, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Principal Financial Group has now added a feature to its health plan that is directed at cancer care as part of its program focused on personalized support.

According to a press release, the Principal Cancer Care Program pairs plan members with nurses, who offer a better understanding of the cancer diagnosis, plan benefits and treatment options.

More specifically, according to the announcement, the nurses offer throughout the employee’s cancer treatment:

  • help to locate quality providers, tracking their treatment plan and any possible side effects and identifying questions to ask their physicians;
  • guidance in understanding health plan benefits and navigating the health care system.

“In addition to the physical suffering, serious illness creates emotional strain on individuals and their families,” said Audrey Vaughn, second vice president of Wellness and Medical Management for the Principal Financial Group. “With that in mind, we’ve designed a program that takes advantage of our disease management expertise to address the special needs of our members with cancer.”
