Russell Employees Paid for "Pooling"

December 14, 2000 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Investment services giant Frank Russell Company is offering its employees an environmentally friendly benefit - $25/month for those who use an alternative to driving to work alone, effective January 1.

The firm, based in Tacoma, Washington, says it will pay employees to walk or bike to work, car pool or take public transit – basically paying the pre-tax bonus to anyone who doesn’t use company-subsidized parking.

Subsidy Size

The company also will increase its direct subsidy for most forms of public transportation, including paying 72% of local transit passes.

Russell continues to offer employees company-subsidized parking. The current subsidy averages $24/month.

Russell employs about 900 people in Tacoma.
