Russell Investments Creates New Role in LDI Solutions

November 28, 2011 (PLANSPONOR.com) – Russell Investments promoted Martin Jaugietis to the newly created role of director, head of LDI solutions, Americas Institutional.

Jaugietis has been a longtime senior consultant within the company. He has 14 years of experience consulting to pension plans in the U.S. and globally. Additionally, Jaugietis is chair of Russell’s LDI steering committee, which is responsible for the LDI research agenda and client investment portfolio positioning. He also works closely with Jeff Hussey, chief investment officer, fixed income and portfolio managers in Russell’s Investment Division to develop and deliver liability-driven solutions.

“I view my role with clients as connecting asset allocation strategy with a practical knowledge of LDI portfolio implementation using multi-manager and customized solutions,” said Jaugietis. “A customized approach is the most likely end-game for U.S. defined benefit plans because every pension plan is unique, and its liabilities evolve in different ways.”

Russell reports that approximately 75% of its U.S. corporate defined benefit clients have now adopted some form of LDI.  Currently the average Russell consulting client has 38% invested in liability-hedging fixed income, up from 27% in 2006.
