SEC's Levitt Joins Investment Firm

May 1, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt is joining The Carlyle Group, a Washington, DC, investment firm.

Levitt will join the firm as a senior adviser, and is expected to advise on a variety of matters relating to private equity investments, according to the firm.

Levitt was the longest serving SEC chairman in history, appointed by President Clinton in 1993. Before stepping down from the post in early February he worked on Wall Street for 16 years and served as chairman of the American Stock Exchange from 1978 to 1989.

Carlyle manages more than $13 billion in a dozen funds in the US, Europe and Asia.
