Small Businesses Planning Holiday Celebrations

November 25, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Seventy-eight percent of small businesses said they plan to do something special for their employees this holiday season, according to a recent American Express report.

The survey – the ‘OPEN Small Business Network Semi-Annual Monitor’ – of 766 businesses with fewer than 100 employees found that of those planning holiday activities,   56% planned a holiday party or get-together and 30% planned   volunteer activities with their staff, including collecting goods for charity or serving food at a local soup kitchen.

Additionally, 46% plan on giving a holiday bonus and 23% plan on giving raises.

Size does matter, as businesses with 10 or more employees were more likely to have a party or reward employees (93%) than those businesses with fewer than 10 employees (75%).

Regionally, companies in the West report 83% plan on having holiday activities or to reward employees, followed by the South, North Central and Northeast regions with 79%, 78% and 71%, planning activities, respectively.
