S&P Forms Custom Index Group

May 3, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Standard & Poor's has formed an S&P Global Custom Index Solutions group so it can put together custom indices for institutional investors and professional money managers.

The new unit leverages the recent addition of the S&P/Citigroup Global Equity Indices with S&P’s traditional index database that includes over 10,000 stocks across 75 countries.

Other common examples of custom products include:

  • geographic indices
  • currency-hedged indices
  • alternative weight indices
  • net return indices
  • fully customized indices comprising a specific set of stocks.

S&P custom indices are calculated in SPICE, the Standard & Poor’s Index Calculation Engine capable of real-time, multi-currency calculations. With daily pricing and free float data dating back to 1989, SPICE can also calculate extensive back history, a key feature for custom index solutions.
