S&P Forms Custom Index Group
May 3, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Standard &
Poor's has formed an S&P Global Custom Index Solutions
group so it can put together custom indices for institutional
investors and professional money managers.
Reported by Fred Schneyer
The new unit leverages the recent addition of the S&P/Citigroup Global Equity Indices with S&P’s traditional index database that includes over 10,000 stocks across 75 countries.
Other common examples of custom products include:
- geographic indices
- currency-hedged indices
- alternative weight indices
- net return indices
- fully customized indices comprising a specific set of stocks.
S&P custom indices are calculated in SPICE, the Standard & Poor’s Index Calculation Engine capable of real-time, multi-currency calculations. With daily pricing and free float data dating back to 1989, SPICE can also calculate extensive back history, a key feature for custom index solutions.
