S&P Puts Out Education Materials

April 24, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Standard & Poor's Financial Communications has rolled out a line of interactive and print products as part of a retirement income planning educational campaign.

An S&P news release said the products, developed for investor use with their financial advisors or alone, include a library of online articles, calculators, interactive tutorials and charts, education guides and broker sales aids.

The new offering provides insights into savings withdrawal strategies, risks to retirement income, annuity features and many other income planning issues, the announcement asserted.

“With baby boomers already beginning to enter their 60s, many financial services companies are finding they have to play catch-up and quickly shift some of their focus from asset accumulation to asset distribution,” said Brian Johnson, editor-in-chief, Standard & Poor’s Financial Communications, in the news release.  “In response, we’ve developed thoughtful, easy to use content that can be customized and combined with existing materials to create a retirement income resource center or support any number of marketing and education programs.”

Specific article topics include:

  • choosing an annual withdrawal rate
  • managing the impact of market volatility on retirement income
  • tapping home equity for retirement.

Among the calculators are:

  • an annual Withdrawal Rate calculator
  • a Projected Retirement Income Calculator
  • a Projected Retirement Expense Calculator.
