Sun Life Extends Group Dental Plan Offering

April 28, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The U.S. division of Sun Life Financial Inc. announced that its Employee Benefits Group has made its Voluntary Dental Plan more accessible to businesses.

According to the announcement, the parameters of Sun Life’s Voluntary Dental Plan have expanded to now accept business with any level of employee contribution, at least 10 enrolled employees, and an employee participation rate of at least 35%. Sun Life also said it will now offer Voluntary Dental with all Indemnity, Scheduled, PPO, and Maximum Allowable Charge (MAC) plans, and as an option on a Dual Select plan.

Other plan enhancements include a new Annual Enrollment Period that gives employees and dependents an opportunity to elect the plan after previously declining coverage, eliminating late entrant penalties that would normally be applied when an employee joins the plan after the new-hire period. Waiting periods, or Deferral of Benefits, for all new employees will also be waived by Sun Life unless requested by the employer, providing coverage from the time of hire without a probation period before receiving benefits.

Employers can also elect a Maximum Carryover Provision allowing participants that spend less their yearly maximum to have the unused portion saved in a Maximum Carryover account for future use.
