The Newport Group Appoints Retirement Plan Sales Head

Sutherland will be responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing for Newport’s retirement plan services. He will manage client development, and execute a strategic sales process to further expand the firm’s growth in the retirement services industry, according to a press release.   

Sutherland will also continue to broaden relationships with the third-party intermediaries and key national alliances who market Newport’s services, the announcement said. Newport’s regional directors and retirement services managers will report directly to him.   

During his nearly 30-year career, Sutherland has held leadership positions with MFS Retirement Services, Putnam, and Wachovia Securities. Most recently, he was a senior vice president with MassMutual. Prior to that, Sutherland was senior vice president, national director of emerging market sales with Wachovia, where he was responsible for sales distribution and management of the firm’s sales desk.  

Sutherland earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and masters degree in education from Trinity College.
