Tortoise and Hare Part of Morningstar New Managed Account Offering

November 18, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Morningstar Investment Services has introduced three new managed portfolios — the Tortoise, the Hare, and Dividend Stock Baskets.

The three new Morningstar Managed Portfolios are patterned after the portfolios of the same name featured in the Morningstar StockInvestor and Morningstar DividendInvestor newsletters, according to the announcement. The “Tortoise” and “Hare” newsletter portfolios, managed by Paul Larson, form the basis for the Tortoise and Hare stock baskets. The Dividend stock basket is based on a combination of the “Dividend Builder” and “Dividend Harvest” newsletter portfolios, both run by Josh Peters.

As their names suggest, the Tortoise stock basket invests in the stocks of slower-growing, relatively stable, top-tier businesses that are typically well-entrenched in the various markets in which they operate, while the Hare stock basket invests in the stocks of firms that are experiencing rapid growth, emphasizing those that have carved out a defensible niche and are selling at reasonable prices.

The Dividend stock basket invests in high-yielding stocks with the potential for dividend growth and capital appreciation, emphasizing those that are financially and operationally resilient and whose management teams are both willing and able to furnish reliable cash returns, the announcement said.
